GoverningOpen

GoverningOpen collected materials—guides, exercises, and other resources—for open source projects tackling governance challenges. The idea is that by learning how past projects have approached recurring problems, we can avoid unnecessary stress and cultivate happier, more functional communities.

The work is organized around governance challenges that recur across many projects, including (but not limited to):

  • Figuring out what kind of governance you have
  • Making decisions about what tasks to work on
  • Deciding on and establishing community norms
  • Raising and/or distributing money
  • Cultivating new leaders from among the community

The project is no longer under active development, as I am focused on understanding and building relational approaches to technology (of which open source governance is an important subset.)
