Programming

Much of the programming I’ve done has been for research lab: building stimuli, user interfaces, and doing data processing and analysis using Matlab, python, and c#. It’s all very customized and not worth the bother of putting online. However! I also enjoy doing web development work, which is of course much easier to share. Here’s a sampling of some of the things I’ve made/worked on:

Web Applications

  • Graphing Donations (in progress) – A Javascript-based app using the Sunlight Foundation’s Transparency API, it displays donations to congressmen in an appealing and hopefully illuminating way. Started by my friend Ben and I during our very first hackathon.
  • Website Development

  • Purple Fields wordpress theme – This website’s current theme. This blog was originally built entirely from scratch, but I’ve gotten into wordpress and making themes for others over the last year, and besides, the back-end is fabulous. (Scheduled posts? Be still my heart.)
  • Shulamis Website – I made this website for a friend’s play a few years ago. It was my first attempt at a website, before I even knew any PHP or Javascript, and there are definitely a lot of layout errors – but I think it’s pretty good for a first time.
  • professional website for Lisa Grossman – A science writer friend of mine commissioned me to design and develop a professional website for her.
  • Children’s Charter – Website made for non-profit at this year’s GiveCamp.
  • Games

    • Cat, Mouse, Dog – A simple game I made as a final for a Java night class I took. Making a (very) rudimentary AI was my favorite part, and I’ve since started reading through this monster of an AI textbook. Maybe one day I’ll go back and make the game a little more interesting! (Or, you know, create a race of hyper-intelligent computers that destroy mankind. Whichever.)
    • I made a short videogame as part of a puzzle hunt that I planned for the kids of Parts & Crafts.
    • In the spirit of sharing my work, no matter how silly I find it, here’s an Easter-themed game I made in Scratch when I was trying it out for the first time.
